With the threat of an early election hanging over, the political parties are kicking campaign mode into full gear. All four have launched or are about to launch of their candidate nomination process.
Doug Ford’s Tories have just launched their candidate search, requesting a handful of riding associations “strike a candidate search committee and begin the process of reviewing potential candidates for the next provincial election.” The Tories will hold a provincial nomination night in September, according to one source, with all PC MPPs eyeing a second term set to be nominated en masse.
Marit Stiles — looking to steer clear of past electoral mishaps — launched an early recruitment process, with a plan to enlist “as many candidates, as early as possible.”
Bonnie Crombie declared “electoral urgency” to speed up the search and is hoping to have half her Liberal slate approved by September, with a roster unveiled at the policy convention in September.
Mike Schreiner is set to launch the Green’s nomination process “in the very near future,” with a plan to run a full slate of candidates but “strategically” zero in on two or three ridings to grow his caucus.
