The London convention.

The invitation, according to a source, was extended to the New Leaf Liberals by the party last night.

What we know: Similar to a leadership contest, the ballot boxes will be sealed and kept in a locked room. One or two representatives from both the New Leafs and Crombie’s team will be allowed to watch over it throughout the three days. They’ll also be allowed to watch the tally up close.

“It’ll be a standard scrutineering process,” a source, speaking on condition they not be named, said.

It’s a rare kumbaya moment for a party torn over their leader’s future. In a leadership review, there’s no formal rule requiring scrutineers in the tally room. A second source described the move as a way to demonstrate the fairness and transparency of the process — and to keep the result’s validity from being called into question in the future.

Another thing: In line with the party’s constitution, each executive council candidate will be allowed to send one representative into the tally room to watch over their vote count. Each count will happen separately.

What they’re saying: “The party is doing their best to be on the up and up, and to carry [the process] out in a fair way,” said co-founder Nathaniel Arfin

“It’s critical that the results are seen as fair and credible,” added co-founder Evan Sambasivam on X. “This gesture goes a long way in ensuring that outcome and squashing any harmful conspiracy theories.”

A party spokesperson declined to comment.

Catch up: T-3 until the AGM, here’s the latest from Liberal land.
