It’s a milestone: POLICORNER just turned one!
We launched this newsletter one year ago — on the heels of a federal election campaign — with a mission of taking you inside the halls of power and informing political watchers on everything happening inside the political arena.
We have since published dozens and dozens of editions (read them all here). We covered a federal and provincial election. We had the scoop on a number of big stories. We interviewed a score of policymakers and power players. We told you about the political drama and reported on the political gossip.
The newsletter is now read by a growing community. Staffers at Queen’s Park and on Parliament Hill. Elected officials. Political candidates. Public servants. Journalists. Political junkies who want to stay informed on all things politics.
Here are some of our biggest stories from year one:
Breaking the news that former NDP captain Andrea Horwath was gearing up for a mayoral bid in Hamilton
The scoop on three MPs running for Speaker of the House of Commons
An inside look at the caucus revolt that led to the ousting of the Conservative leader — and an early look at who might take up the leadership mantle
An exclusive profile of the Speaker of the House of Commons
Our exit interview with the former Scientific Director of the COVID-19 Science Table
Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie and Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown on the year that was and cooperating with Queen’s Park
A behind-the-scenes look on looming job action in Ontario colleges
Disclosing that an NDP MPP is surveying supporters on what they would “like to see from our next leader”
Revealing that schools have been given a green light for use as voting stations in the June election
